Waging the War on Wrinkles

Wednesday, November 18, 2009
Got wrinkles? It’s cute for dogs and babies to have them, though the lines and creases are not so attractive on adults. With mom entrepreneur's faces constantly ending up in photos and on video in today’s technology-driven culture, we should all be looking for ways to improve our skin.

Thanks again to Celeste Hilling of Skin Authority for more great advice about preventing wrinkles. I turn 40 in January and I feel very fortunate to not have any wrinkles yet. I know they are coming. I thank my mom - something in the genes!

In this Q&A post with healthy skin care expert Celeste Hilling, this Skin Authority CEO explains that while there are no miracles in waging the war on wrinkles, there are some smart tools that you can place in your arsenal.

TME: What Causes a Wrinkle?
Celeste: To put it simply - a wrinkle is a fold where the dead skin has sunk into the face. Hilling shares a helpful analogy to help you understand the cause, click HERE.

TME: How does your family tree affect skin health?
Celeste: Each of us has unique skin needs based on the affects of age, ethnicity, health and hormones. Click HERE for more insight into how your family tree plays into your skin health.

TME: What advice do you have about using sun screen?
Celeste: Use sunscreen each and every day – rain or shine. To determine the quality of a sunscreen, check the SPF number (it must be SPF 15 or greater). The active ingredient label should list UVA-blocking ingredients of either titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and/or those in the avobenzone family. More sun sense tips can be found HERE.

TME: Do moisturizers eliminate wrinkles?
Celeste: It’s important to use a soothing, lightweight moisturizer twice daily on your face and neck. Moisturizers alone do not eliminate wrinkles. Click HERE for more information.

TME: How about the eyes? That seems to be where wrinkles always start.
Celeste: The No. 1 selling skin care products are those for the eyes. And, in addition to products, there are several quick tips to help the skin around the eyes.

TME: Can you tell us about your Wrinkle Reversing Serum™?
Celeste: My team created a way to get rid of crow’s feet and worry lines without needles, downtime or thousands of dollars. Wrinkle Reversing Serum™ is the first in a range of products to incorporate SGF-4 Technology™. Derived from four natural, nourishing proteins, SGF-4 Technology was developed specifically to target and reprogram the aging process of skin cells. To learn more about SGF-4 Technology and to see the results of Wrinkle Reversing Serum, watch this video.

Great advice Celeste, and thanks for the informational audio links. Just a reminder that Skin Authority's Beauty Workout Holiday Boot Camp continues until the end of November. For a listing of events in your area and to register, click here...>

5 More Thrifty Tips for Taking Care of Your Skin

Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Two weeks ago, we shared five thrifty skin care tips with you from skin care guru Celeste Hilling, CEO of Skin Authority.

By popular demand, Celeste is back this week with five additional thrifty and simple tips for achieving radiant skin. This is especially important for busy moms who very rarely take time for themselves.

The Mom Entrepreneur will be hosting a teleseminar on November 17th with Celeste who will share 5-minute skin care tips for moms who need to take more me-time. She will also discuss how stress causes premature aging and wrinkles - I turn 40 in January and I am not ready for wrinkles! More details will be coming soon.

Thursday, November 5th from 9pm - 10pm EST, Celeste will also be sharing skin care and beauty tips for moms at our Twitter Party. We will also be giving away some amazing prizes all donated by Skin Authority - including a visit to the spa! I hope you will join us.

5 More Thrifty Tips for Taking Care of Your Skin
by Celeste Hilling

As we head into the holiday season, enjoy these simple and cost-effective skin care tips…
  1. Wash Your Face – it sounds simple and it is, cleaning your skin is one of the most important things you can do when you wake up and before you go to bed. Remove make-up and deep cleanse in one step by using cleansers incorporating AHAs, which are antibacterial and remove dead skin cells.
  2. Hands Off – regardless of the urge, keep your hands off your pimples! By pushing and prodding, you are actually pushing bacteria deeper, causing more inflammation and potentially scarring the skin.
  3. Stop Smoking – in addition to its negative, carcinogenic effects on your body and overall health, smoking causes premature aging. Cigarette smoke contains more than 4000 toxins, many of which are absorbed directly into the bloodstream and are taken by the blood into the skin's structure. Smoking also thins the skin, reduces collagen and contributes to an unflattering “apple” body shape in women.
  4. More Sleep, Less Stress – as one of the biggest impairments to skin care is stress, ease into a good night’s sleep by turning off the television, taking a warm bath, dimming the lights and practicing breathing exercises.
  5. Free Skin Care Coaching – in light of the economy, Celeste has developed her own Skin Health Stimulus Package. Everyone has access to a free phone or online consultation with a licensed professional to help them make safer, wiser choices on where to spend their skin care dollar or better utilize the products they already have. Simply dial 1.866.325.SKIN (7546) and say that you want to join the Beauty Workout. It’s really that simple!

5 Thrifty Tips for Taking Care of Your Skin
by Celeste Hilling

Beautiful skin without spending a lot of cash? It’s true. In fact, you can actually save money on skin care, while also cleaning out your cabinets! I have spent more than 15 years researching and designing products in the quest to help people build and maintain radiant skin. With these 5 thrifty tips, I hope to empower you to throw away your old ways of thinking.
  1. Out With the Old - discard your beauty products one year after opening them because bacteria can grow in the bottle and potentially cause infections or irritation when applied to the skin. Write the date purchased on the bottom of new products so that you know when it has reached the end of its useful life.
  2. Simplify Your Beauty – you only need three to four steps in the morning and at night. In the a.m., you need a mild cleanser, an anti-oxidant such as Vitamin C, and a sunscreen moisturizer. Before going to bed, use resurfacing ingredients such as AHAs and retinols, in addition to restorative peptides.
  3. Sun Protection – use sunscreen every day, rain or shine. To determine the quality, check the SPF number on the label (those with SPF 15 or greater yield the best results). Also, scan the active ingredient label to make sure it has UVA-blocking elements such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or anything in the avobenzone family.
  4. Look at the Cost Per Ounce – shop for skin care products the way you shop for food, by looking at the cost per ounce. What you’ll find is that products from spas and salons are a great bargain since many include complimentary consultations with a licensed esthetics's expert.
  5. Don't Buy Products Based on Price – just because a product is expensive, does not mean it’s amazing. On the other hand, a product that costs less may not be a bargain that will work. Instead of shopping by price, evaluate the concentration of active ingredients and ensure any treatment product has a pH below four. The human skin ranges from 4.5-5.5 pH. A product should be below the pH level of the skin for maximum penetration.
